2011 MTV Video Music Awards Nominations are in!!! Guess who got SNUBBED!?

It's about that time again!  The 2011 MTV VMA's are just around the corner, and the nominees have been unveiled!  Pop sensation, Katy Perry is  leading the way with an impressive  9 nominations, Adele follows with 7 and Kanye West snagged  6 nominations.  Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj were not left out in the cold, the ladies each garnered 3 nominations.  In what appears to some as a snub, Rihanna's name, however, is missing from the list when it comes to the big awards like 'Video of the year' and 'Best Pop Video'.(She did get some collaboration nods.)  Some seem to think that MTV is 'punishing' RiRi for her recent video controversies involving the lawsuit over the idea for 'S&M' and the hotly controversial 'Man Down' visual.

MTV has been known to blacklist certain artists.  Remember how they treated Janet Jackson after the Super Bowl 'thing'.  Again, this is purely speculation.

Justin Bieber reaches a MILESTONE!!! Beat's GaGa & Obama!?

On July 14 2011 Justin Bieber joined Lady Gaga by hitting the 11 million mark in Twitter followers.   Guess who is in the # 3 spot?

Well the 3rd place goes to some guy you may know....TPOTUS: Barack Obama, of course!!!
Justin Bieber now has 11 Million followers on Twitter.  He still is not #1 however.  Lady GaGa is well over 11 million while Barack Obama is a a 'measly' 9 million.

Justin Bieber was at the 2011 ESPY Awards with Selena Gomez while his Twitter count was climbing to that mark!  Beiber learned about it later and when he did he had this to say... via Twitter of course:

"#11MillionBeliebers! I LOVE YOU ALL!! THANK YOU....tonight was already a fun great night and now it is even better. THANK U THANK U THANK U."

In related news, it was only back in May that Lady Gaga was the first to hit the 10 million mark in twitter followers. Bieber followed a few weeks later and at one point was only about 350,000 followers behind but with the success of her album Born This Way she's began gaining more followers per day than he was. Though that trend may be reversing again, she's now over 600,000 followers ahead. The stats come courtesy 'Famecount.'

 You may ask, what is 'Famecount'?  'Famecount' is an online site that "...generates statistics across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to help you track the trends and rank the stars." In YouTube views the site reports Bieber leading  with Lady Gaga in 2nd place. It is a close race since the release of Born This Way.
These numbers  include views of every song the artist has on YouTube and indicate many are using YouTube to watch these two perform their songs. At present, Justin Bieber has 1.75 billion YouTube Views while Lady Gaga has 1.725 billion. You read that right - billion. Rihanna is 3rd with 1.36 billion and Eminem 4th with 1.29 billion.  Can you believe these numbers?  I did not know so many people were obsessed with Bieber, GaGa & RiRi!

The Only Ten Magazines That Matter skew towards an older demographic, so Bieber and Gaga aren't the center of the supermarket gossip universe, but they do appear from time to time. This is Lady Gaga's third appearance on a tabloid cover in 2011 and the first positive story about her. The others were in Star.

Lady GaGa's 'Born This Way' sells a MILLI + in a week!!

As expected, Lady GaGa tops Billboard's Top 100 Chart debuting at # 1 selling an impressive 1,108,000 million copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It’s only the 17th album to sell a million in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991, and the highest sales week since 2005.

'Born This Way' reaps the largest sales week of any album since 50 Cent's "The Massacre" did 1,141,000 in its first week, in March of 2005. The last time we had a million-plus frame was when Taylor Swift's "Speak Now" premiered at No. 1 with 1,047,000 in November of 2010. The SoundScan-era record week is held by NSYNC's "No Strings Attached," which  debuted at No. 1 with 2,416,000 in 2000.



GaGa has one hell of a following and thanks to a major promo push, 99 cent album download on Amazon.com, big-time appearances, killer performances, and of course the undying support of her 'Little Monsters', GaGa reigns supreme right now.  This is also GaGa's 1st album to debut at the top spot. “The Fame” debut  at No. 2, while “The Fame Monster” EP reached No. 5 .

'American Idol' Finale: in 60 seconds!!

While everybody was captivated by 'ALL THE REALLY BIG TALENT' 'Idol' crammed into that stuffy 2hours, there was a talent competition going on as well.

MTV summed this up just right.  The actual artist they were trying to promote didn't actually speak to the wide demographics.  I mean, teenage country singers?  That's about as fun as a bowl of wet air soaking in hot dog water. (Y'all can have that one--that's a freebie).  So in 'Idol' fashion, divert attention from the boring finalists and cram pack everything but the kitchen sink into the actual show itself.  With GaGa, Spiderman, Beyonce, TLC,  and anybody else who wanted to stop by to promote something here is what you may have missed.

'American Idol' went all out at last night's FINALE EVENT.  Even though i wasn't too keen on the final two contestants, 'AI' knew they had to up the ante to pull in big numbers for the ratings!
And in true 'AI' fashion they seized the moment.  Hype man, rapper and 'Celebrity Apprentice's' Lil' Jon got the crowd hype as the eliminated contestants sang alongside the likes of TLC, Beyonce and Lady GaGa.

This year's finale will be hosted by none other than Justin Timberlake and special musical guest, Lady GaGa.  So set your DVR's because with these two on board, you can guarantee that this season will go out with a bang!

The choreography and the production is on-point of course.  But I feel like I need to get out my Bible and re-read the story of Judas and Jesus.  I think the concept and idea involves too much thinking.  Most great videos are that because they just are.  Simple and to the point.  Some times some artists try so hard to make an EPIC visual that the concept becomes muddled.  This visual makes me have to think too much and doesn't rely on its on merit to 'just be'.  Nonetheless, it's GAGA, so it will still do well and break all sorts of records.  In my opinion, no real new territory has been explored.  It's just GaGa being GaGa. I'm just saying...

What do you guys think?  Was it worth the wait?
I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and all the little 'MONSTERS' can gang up on me now, but I think the cover is underwhelming, at best.  After all the hype and waiting, I was expecting a little more.  The cover looks, for lack of a better word, 'CORNY'.  She's taken been more creative on red carpets and magazine photoshoots, inmy opinion.  Or maybe the underlying meaning and concept is lost on my puny little normal person brain?  I don't know.  But not jumping up and down over this cover.  What is she trying to be a Transformer or a GOBOT? Don't act as if you don't remember GoBots! LOL.  Lady GaGa is STILL an amazing performer, don't get me wrong.  Great voice, a wealth of talent and all the makings of a star with longevity, but I am just not liking this cover.  Moving on.. GaGa not only gave this little gem to her 'Monsters', but she also released her new latest single too.

The RedOne-produced "Judas" carries echoes of her biggest hits, "Bad Romance" and "Poker Face," and finds Gaga pushing religious boundaries over a pummeling breakdown. "In the most biblical sense, I am beyond repentance/Fame hooker prostitute wench, vomits her mind," she spits. "But in the cultural sense, I just speak in future tense/Judas kiss me if offensed, or wear ear condom next time."




Lady Gaga's 'Judas' could battle Rihanna for No. 1 on Hot 100.  Rihanna's 'S&M' was gaining momentum to hit #1 garnering the 'Pop princess' her 10th number 1 single.  Now with the early release of GaGa's 2nd single, there could be a battle for that top title.

Rihanna stans, you have your work cut out for you.  We shall see how things go next week.
